Chapter 2 - Step Away From Her, Frank
Rose insisted she never authorized any sale. Frank dismissed her objections as confusion while his attorneys warned her to stop interfering with Dawson Development’s project.
Determined to challenge him publicly, Rose arrived at Frank’s hotel presentation carrying documents. Frank responded by shoving her and destroying what he assumed was evidence.
He never noticed attorney Claire Morgan crossing the lobby until she stood several feet away beside two uniformed police officers. “Step away from her, Frank.”
Frank’s confidence disappeared. Claire helped Rose while an officer offered his hand. Rose stood, brushed her navy dress, and looked directly at the developer.
“You signed the wrong document,” Rose said. Frank frowned, demanding to know why police officers had entered what he called a private business celebration.
Claire opened her briefcase and explained that the paper Frank destroyed was merely a copy. The originals were safely stored, and they told another story.
Jason’s power of attorney was strictly limited. He could pay bills, communicate with insurers, and handle designated operating expenses while Rose recovered from surgery.
The document gave Jason absolutely no authority to sell real estate. More importantly, Frank’s attorneys had discovered that limitation before his company announced the acquisition.
An early title report specifically questioned Jason’s authority. Frank had received the warning, but instead of stopping the transaction, he ordered his team to continue.
Claire handed him an email carrying his own words. One sentence had been highlighted: “Find a way around Rose. We need control before she realizes what Jason signed.”
Frank’s face tightened. Rose asked whether he recognized his message. He insisted one email proved nothing. Claire calmly agreed before reaching into her briefcase again.
She removed the purchase agreement Frank had celebrated for months. Frank had signed it, Jason had signed it, but one fundamental problem remained hidden inside.
