David explained that he was staying at the Grand Jefferson Hotel. He and Jessica entered together because they planned to meet privately in its restaurant.

David had brought a box containing Susan’s photographs, letters, family records, and medical information that Jessica had spent most of her life wondering about.

Jessica admitted he was right. There was no immediate embrace or dramatic reconciliation. They simply sat together and acknowledged how badly secrecy had damaged trust.

Eventually, Mark asked whether Jessica still wanted to marry him that day. She answered yes without hesitation, and he requested one promise before continuing.

“No more major secrets.” Jessica agreed. Mark then looked toward David and unexpectedly asked whether his future brother-in-law planned on staying for the wedding.
